John Wesley Work Jr. is credited with publishing the song “Go, Tell It on the Mountain” in 1901. Work was a leader in preserving and performing African American spirituals, and he trained the Fisk Jubilee Singers. The song was originally part of African American oral tradition and likely dates back to the pre-Civil War era. Hear the angelic voice of professional soprano Deadra J. Griffeth on this special rendition of the classic hymn.
